Be Prepared with Basic Terms Before Your Next Dental Appointment

The longest I've ever gone between visits to the dentist is three years. It's a little embarrassing to admit, but I didn't have dental insurance, and I had other financial priorities. Then I landed a job with full health insurance, including dental. I was thrilled to have coverage again, but I can't say I was looking forward to my first cleaning in so long. Part of my trepidation was due to my unpreparedness. I hadn't seen a dentist in ages--what if I needed a root canal? What if I had cavities? Did I even know what happened during a routine cleaning anymore? There are a ton of techniques and procedures that are important to know before walking into an appointment. If you're like I was, and can't remember the last time you saw a dental drill, read through these basic terms to refamiliarize yourself before your next appointment.
